I just want to gather opinion on the Glazers. Many were opposed to the takover back in the mid 2000's. And rightly so too. They saddled the club with a massive debt, way over half a billion pounds (I think). But has that changed now? 4 League titles, a champions league and 2 Carling cups have been earnt by the club. Record operating profits have been released today and the debt has been reduced in the last year, and maybe could be wiped out with the flotation on the Singapore stockmarket.
Obviously buying the club with someones money should not be allowed, but under the Glazers ownership, we still have been succsessful, and could have won another two European titles, if those pesky Catalan's had not been in our way.
Our transfer policy has been good IMO (Aside from Bebe), especially this season. We have brought young English talent, with the likes of Jones and Smalling, our little Mexican amigo Hernandez, and a proven PL player in Young. We have also done our business early. (I am reliably informed the deal for Young was set up in January). Ronaldo was sold for 80M on July 1st 2009, when the transfer window opened. Unlike, say Arsenal who sold two key players in Cesc and Nasri just a week before the window closed, leaving there squad streched while they tried to recruit reinforcments.
Now im no financial expert, so I don't know if there is any pitfalls regarding this Singapore flotation. But if this 600M wipes out the debt, then I can't see it being a bad thing. Maybe someone with more business acumen than me can correct me and give us their thoughts.
Another thing is that we really seem to have tapped into the Aisan and North American markets (Hell maybe this blog wouldn't even exsist if we hadn't roured there so frequently). This means big revenue from shirt deals and sponerships.
Here is a link from the BBC from today (sept 1st)
Anyway, enough chatter from me. Let's poll it up. Interested in your thoughts, do share?
