Manchester United Team News for West Brom -- Welbeck should be ready, Young might be

The injuries are piling up and fatigue is becoming a factor during this festive season. Expect some squad rotation for Manchester United's clash with West Bromwich Albion.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson held his weekly press conference earlier today and during it, he revealed very little. Injuries have begun to pile up during this holiday season and fatigue has become an issue as well. Here's the update the gaffer gave:

"I can't give you an update on the injuries as it's only two days on from Wednesday [the game vs Newcastle] and there were issues with a soft, tiring pitch. We need to assess players like Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs as I think, at their age, it took a lot out of them. We're hoping maybe Young will be ready and Daniel Welbeck should be ready. He was ill on Tuesday night but I think he should be okay. At least that's a couple of bodies back fresh for us. We'll just assess the rest in terms of tiredness. All the players are key now as we're picking up one or two injuries. Rooney is out for at least another two games. He was a bit better yesterday. We're going to assess Phil Jones but I don't think he'll be ready."

Fergie also provided this update on Shinji Kagawa:

"Shinji wanted to do a warm-up and training on the pitch and he is getting close. I'll see what he's like today and I could maybe put him on the bench tomorrow depending on who is available. The most important thing is to assess the tiredness and also the fitness of one or two others."

There will be rotation. If Danny Welbeck and Ashley Young are available, expect them to start. As the manager mentions, Ryan Giggs is likely to be rested so the other options in the front four, along with Welbeck and Young, are Javier Hernandez (Chicharito), Robin van Persie, and Antonio Valencia. One of the latter two could be rested since both have featured twice already in the past week. Despite what Fergie says, Kagawa is possible to start as well.

In midfield, Michael Carrick has the endurance to play thrice in a week. However, he could be rotated out because United do another Premier League match on New Year's Day. Paul Scholes is likely to be rested but any of Carrick, Tom Cleverley, or Darren Fletcher are in contention to start versus West Bromwich Albion. Anderson is still out due to injury.

In defense, Phil Jones appears to unavailable while Rafael could be as well -- no update was given today on the latter. Chris Smalling is capable of deputising at right-back while two of Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, and Jonny Evans is likely to be chosen for tomorrow's game.
