POST-MATCH QUOTES

Sir Alex Ferguson | MUFC manager (courtesy of Sky Sports)

(On Luis Suarez's refusal to shake Evra's hand...) "I couldn't believe it [Suarez refusing to shake Evra's hand]. He's a disgrace to Liverpool Football Club. He shouldn't be allowed to play for Liverpool again."

(Overall thoughts on the match...) "I thought it was a great performance by us, I’m disappointed it has ended up 2-1, to be honest with you. Maybe we did tend to just try to play out the game and keep possession, and not really threaten the way we did before we got the goals. Oh, crikey me. I think my heart’s still out there! It was nervy in the sense that you’re playing Liverpool, they’ve come back from 2-0 down to 2-1, and you know football: anything can happen. You only need a second to lose a goal or score a goal so that was a worrying period, but we got through it. That’s the only fault I can find in the players, because right the way through the team we played some fantastic football. Really, really good football today."

(On Welbeck, Scholes and Rooney...) "I thought Danny Welbeck was terrific, particularly in the first half. Scholesy was unlucky with his header, the goalkeeper had a good save. I thought we were well on top of the game, it’s just getting that goal. Of course, Wayne scored and then two minutes later he’s scored another one which was a great start to the second half for us."

(On his two goals...) "It’s a great feeling to score two goals against Liverpool at Old Trafford, which obviously helped us win the game and get three points which is something that I had dreamed about as a young boy."

(Overall thoughts on the match...) "I think Liverpool came to frustrate us by putting men behind the ball, they did that to a certain extent but we kept pushing and opened them up a couple of times. We maybe should have done better in front of goal so when we went in to half time at 0-0, we knew we had to concentrate and come out quickly. We managed to do that and get the two goals early on. It was a great lift for us. It killed the game off a little bit and we felt we were in control. They had a little bit more of possession but they didn’t really trouble us to be honest. They hit a few long balls into the box which we dealt with quite well and thankfully we saw the game out. Anything can happen in these games. Once they got the goal we knew we had to see the game out and we retreated a little bit to get men behind the ball and try to hit them on the counter attack. Thankfully, we managed to see it out and get the three points.""

(On his performances versus Liverpool...) "I feel I’ve played well against Liverpool in the past but maybe not got the goals. Today I got the two goals and I’m thankful we got the three points."

(On the Valencia vs. Jose Enrique match-up...) "Enrique is a great fullback, he’s very quick and powerful and is very similar to Antonio with a similar build. But I thought Antonio did really well as he has done in the last few weeks. Hopefully he can continue that form because he’s a big player for us."

Rio Ferdinand | MUFC defender (courtesy of MUTV)

(On the pre-match handshake fiasco...) "I thought it was bad decision-making from their guy [Suarez]," said Rio. "It's a touchy subject at the minute and things could have been put to bed a little bit easier if the handshake had been done. After seeing what I saw I decided not to shake his hand. He's not got the respect the he needs to have in these situations and acknowledge he's made a mistake and say sorry. I lost all respect for the guy after that. It could have been resolved today, maybe, between the two people who are involved. After this, it's not great. It's disappointing. I expected more from the other guy but it wasn't to be. There are a lot of things going on both on and off the pitch. But the result was the most important thing. To win the game... unbelievable atmosphere. I thought both sets of fans were good. That was pleasing. Hopefully we can talk more about the football."

(Overall thoughts on United's performance and the result...)"It was massive. We've not had great results against them in recent years and this is an important point of the season in which to get this result. We're all happy. We wanted to win, we got a great draw last Sunday against Chelsea. Today it's great to get the three points and carry on from there. We controlled the whole game, especially the second half. It was almost like a walk in the park at times. But that happens in these games. You have moments like that but you have to always be aware the other team has quality on their team. Saying that, it wasn't a great goal from them. We should have dealt with the first ball in and we didn't. But in games like this the result's the most important thing. We just have to take care of our own results. If we continue doing that we've got a chance. We're not worried about what everyone else is doing. We're just concentrating on ourselves and want to continue getting three points."

(On Evans' performance...) "Jonny Evans was fantastic today. A lot of the stuff that's said about Jonny is way off the mark. He's appreciated by all the players in the squad."

Kenny Dalglish | Liverpool wanker

(Overall thoughts on the match...) "David De Gea made a good save right at the end but overall I think you would say United were the better side."
