Are Both Bale and Modric headed to Old Trafford? Or One? Or Neither?

Lots of reports recently.... Well, ever since Tottenham Hotspur bizarrely let go of manager Harry Redknapp that it is not just Luka Modric that Manchester United are after. Fears of a mass exodus at White Hart Lane are mounting, and it could be that Gareth Bale is headed toward the exit too. However are United interested in both?

It is quite possible that Luka Modric will don the famous red of Manchester United next season, as it seems at the moment that it is a two horse race between us and Chelsea. Modric almost left last year, before Levy priced Chelsea out of a move. However reports through the season seem to suggest that he has become less inclined to join Chelsea, and an Old Trafford move seems more of a possibility. What with Chelsea splashing the cash on Eden Hazard, as well as the expected capture of Hulk from Porto which should happen soon, how much cash is the Russian tycoon that is Romam Abramovich going to throw at his beloved club? And with Manchester United missing out on the aforementioned Hazard, it shows that we are willing to spend big on the right player.

But can we spend big on more than one player? With the loss of Champions League football, the well of money might not be quite as deep as it once possibly was. The debt re-payments that the Glaziers haved saddled the club with is still a big burden. Yet talk of a floatation, not on the Singapore market, but on the USA stock market may cut the re-paments down. (Please note that I am no expert on these matters).

So there may possibly just be a little more money to spend on the playing squad. And if Gareth Bale does admit he wants a move, now that 'Arry has left, I really believe Manchester United should pounce if we can. Gareth Bale truly does have world class talent. He showed that when he ripped through Inter Milan's defense, and left for dead a helpless Maicon, who at the time was rated as one of the worlds best right back's. Bale scored three goals in that game in a losing effort at the San Siro. That performance was a spring board for the rest of the season, where he was voted PFA player of the season. This season he has added to his game. At times playing through the centre, instead of just hugging the left touchline. It seems his football intelligence is growing. And with his added flexibility, it could suit our own added flexibility, if we are to gain the most out of our own new signing, Shinji Kagawa.

Any deal that may take place regarding Bale, could pave a way for Nani to leave. Again, this is pure speculation, but recent reports seem to indicate a reluctance to extend the Portugese wingers deal, with Italian Clubs (Juventus) sniffing. On his day he is one of the true match winners in the squad. However he does have consistency issues, and with Ashley Young having a very solid first season, while establishing himself as a star of the England team, and Antonio Valencia cementing his place on the right, it may be that the club sees fit to sell up if a good offer comes in.

Again, this article is not based on fact, and probably will not come to fruition. But, if the funds are available for both Bale and Modric to arrive, then I believe we should make them a priority. Obviously, if we can only have one, then Modric has to be the one, as he is the greater need.
