On the day Rafael has signed a new contract to keep him at the club, his twin brother Fabio is headed out on loan to fellow Premier League club (Just) Queens Park Rangers.
Sir Alex Ferguson was quoted in saying that he will head out on loan at the end of last season, but up until today, he destination remained unknown, with Benfica being reportedly interested in him.
It is a much needed move for both the player, and the club. The player needs time on the pitch, and although he can fill either full back berth, with plenty of options at right back he will only realistically see the field at left back. And due to Patrice Evra hardly missing a game in the last thousand years, despite his declining form, Fabio's progress had stalled. This was despite playing right back against Barcelona in the Champions League final, even with the vastly more experienced John O'Shea being available.
Hopefully Fabio see's plenty of playing time, unlike Federico Macheda, who spent five months on loan at QPR, yet only played a handful of games. If he does, I am sure Manchester United will reap the rewards in the years to come.
