Lots of rumours, circulating tonight that QPR are in advanced talks to sign Manchester United's South Korean utility man/tactical Swiss army knife, Park Ji Sung.Depending on what source you choose to believe, the fee could range from £2M - £5M.
Although these rumours have not been confirmed, it would perhaps explain why the club have been linked with many a winger since the end of the season. Most notable of which are Eden Hazard (Who in the end turned us down) and Porto winger James Rodriguez.
But lets get back to Park. If his departure does come to pass, I am sure that 99% of fans will only be grateful for his 7 years of service. The one performance that really stands out, is the way he completely shut down Andrea Pirlo when given a Man Marking task on the superb play maker. To be honest, after the tournament the Italian just enjoyed at the Euros, that performance is even more impressive. England and Germany would have loved to have had a player with the kind of intelligence to mirror the job Park done on Pirlo.
That was part of his beauty as a player. You could stick him in any position, give him any task and he will give you nothing but a 110%. He had such stamina. Such an over used cliche but this one fits superbly. "He covers every single blade of grass". Not enough credit was given for his attacking prowess too. Sure, he was never a world class, out and out productive winger. But boy, he loved a crucial goal (Arsenal must have been sick of the site of him).
Last season was maybe one of his worst in a United shirt. He was sometimes deployed in the centre of the park as part of a midfield duo, and it just did not work. And with the signing of Ashley young, along with the wonderful form of Antonio Valencia, Park just could not get regular minutes out wide.
But he will still be remembered fondly. I feel guilty for thinking, at the time of his arrival, that he was brought as a marketing ploy. A way to exploit the Aisan market. How wrong I was.
