Alex Livesey

Post-match quotes from Sir Alex Ferguson, Nani, Javier Hernandez (Chicharito), and Brian McDermott.

(On Nani's influence in this match...) "His contribution was terrific. Just after coming on he had two great strikes, one hit the post and the other one was saved. In the second half he got us the opening goal and I had the feeling he would win the match for us. I think he deserved it. He's a fantastic talent. You could see he was right on form when he came on. He's a good addition. If he keeps that form, it makes my job more difficult."

(Overall thoughts...) "It ended up a really good tie. When they got their goal, they went for it. They hurled the ball into the box, hoping to get that vital touch. But we withstood that. And I think when you analyse it, we played some great football. We could have scored a lot of goals tonight. We made some chances - we had shots blocked, the goalkeeper's made some saves, I'm really satisfied with the quality of the game. A goal can change things and when we got it, we had to defend well. We really should have punished them better, though. At 2-0 you're never comfortable."

(On Chicharito...) "15 goals he's got us this season. The great thing about Chicharito is his energy and enthusiasm is fantastic."

(On the quarter-final draw at home against either Middlesbrough or Chelsea...) "When you look at these draws, you just hope for a home quarter final. You can't ask for any more than that."

(On the result...) "It is very important, the manager has told us that he wants to win the FA Cup and we are very focused on this competition. We prepared very hard for this game and we did well to win, which is the most important thing."

(On coming back from his injury...) "I have been injured for a long time and it is always difficult when you come back, but I’ve worked very hard and part of what I did on the pitch was because I’ve worked very hard. I will continue to work hard to do my best. It was nice to help the team, it was a beautiful evening and I have to keep working hard to try and help the team every time I get on the pitch."

(Overall thoughts on the match...) "It is always difficult to play against this team because they have a very good motivation to play against us and they always play until the last minute. Of course, if they relax a bit then they can cause problems. They scored one goal and the last minutes were difficult for us."

(On his impact as a substitute...) "I was glad to get an opportunity to come on, I enjoyed the game and helped the team. I scored the first goal and that changed the game and I am pleased to get an assist to help the team to this big win."

(On Reading being a tough opponent...) "We know they are difficult, they wanted to score for the draw but we are very happy to go through. Then Nani came on, got the first goal and he was brilliant and made chances for us. We were respectful of them, they are a very good team and we're very happy. Now we have to focus on QPR in our next game."

(Overall thoughts...) "It's a proud night for us because the players have given everything and showed real quality. We wanted to try to get through and we did everything we could, they gave us everything tonight. In the last 15 minutes we were playing a lot of the football in their final third, we got balls into the box and I thought we might just manage to nick a draw at the end. I think our supporters thought we were going to nick a goal for them at the end too. We've done that for them many, many times this season and many times over the last three years. But it's wasn't to be tonight."

(On Robin van Persie coming on as a substitute...) "When I saw van Persie warming up I said to him if he wouldn't mind just going back to sit back down on the bench. But he ignored me! When he came onto the pitch, that gave their crowd a lift and the atmosphere became a bit more intense. But they've got quality all over the pitch, you look at their team and they play some fabulous football."

(More on his side's performance...) "Saying that, I thought we played some fabulous football as well. They were defending for their lives at the end and that's what makes champions. They get results. Their manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, he knows how to get results and I think he'll be quite relieved tonight knowing that his side have gone through."
