POST-MATCH QUOTES

Sir Alex Ferguson | MUFC manager (courtesy of MUTV)

(On Kagawa's impressive performance...) "Midway through the second half, I didn’t think it would end up 4-0 as I think we were a bit ragged for that period. But, when we brought Shinji into central midfield, it made a difference to us and he ended up with a hat-trick. It’s brilliant for him. The lad is a good finisher and his second goal was so composed and an intelligent finish while his third was absolutely brilliantly-taken. It’s been a great day for him."

(More on Kagawa...) "He got that injury around October-November and was out quite a while. It knocked him back a bit but he’s gradually coming back and I think you’ll see a really good player next year."

(On Rooney going the full 90 minutes...) "It’ll do him good. Confidence is part of it for Wayne. He’s missed two or three games recently but he worked hard and he scored a goal which is all we need."

(Overall thoughts... ) "All in all, we showed good spirit, we were determined and worked really hard in the match. They didn’t think about what was going to happen on Tuesday so they all contributed in that respect."

(On van Persie and Ryan Giggs...) "We agreed Robin would get an hour. [Giggs] will be involved on Tuesday [against Real Madrid. We couldn’t miss that moment for the lad. He deserves it."

(More general thoughts on his side...) "I'm delighted. The name of the game is to win matches at this moment and keep the distance to your closest rivals. We've done it well today. The squad is playing really well - everyone is contributing. There's a terrific spirit so when you leave players out you know you're making difficult choices because you could pick three or four different teams."

(On going 15 points clear in the title race...) "It's a cushion. I expect City to win on Monday against Villa. Villa are a young team struggling hard at the bottom of the league. The important thing is if we keep winning our games it doesn't matter.

Chris Hughton | NCFC manager (courtesy of Sky Sports)

(Overall thoughts...) "The first goal yes, of course, hurt us, but the second goal hurt us more. Of course you have to defend well against Manchester United but I thought we were a reasonable threat on the break. We perhaps could have kept the ball a little bit better. But I think the second one is the one that hurt us because at that stage you've got to open up a little bit to get yourselves back in the game and of course doing that allows United, with the quality they've got, to get into the spaces that really hurt us."

(On not being able to test de Gea...) "I think you always want to be a threat but we have to realistic coming to Old Trafford. You need to stay in the game for as long as you can. There aren't too many teams in the stature of ourselves who are going to come here and have lots of chances."
