Post Match Reaction: Manchester United 1 - 2 Manchester City

Alex Livesey

The war may perhaps already be won but this battle was lost as Manchester City once again took the spoils at Old Trafford.

The lead at the top of the Premier League has been cut to 12 points as City took the three points in the derby at Old Trafford. A match full of passion was decided in the second half. Phil Jones (Or perhaps a Vincent Kompany OG) cancelled out James Milner's powerful deflected shot only for Sergio Aguero to score the winner from the bench ten minutes from time.

Overall it was quite a disappointing performance from Manchester United. The first ten minutes was open but City soon took control. United's defence stood firm however, Phil Jones particularly impressing, standing in for the injured trio of Vidic, Evans and Smalling. He stuck tight to Carlos Tevez and denied him a goal with a crucial block on his six yard box.

In the attacking third, we never really got going. Our biggest threat was perhaps Rooney who sparked a counter attack or two. The most notable was when he fed the ball to Young on the left, who attacked his man, dragging the ball from his right to his left. His shot however was as tame as a toothless kitten.

The second half was a great advertisement for football. City opened up the scoring early on. Ryan Giggs gave the ball away, and after a pass or three the ball was laid off to Milner to drive home low. de Gea got a hand to it but not even someone of his talents could prevent the net rippling.

We responded swiftly however. Rafael surged down the right and was confronted by Yaya Toure. It looked like men's football Vs U12's, and the ref, seeing these sneaky tactics, awarded Rafa a free kick due to a shove by the giant on the little 'un. Robin Van Persie sent it fizzing over the grasping outstretched hand of Joe Hart. Phil Jones got his head on it and Kompany got the last touch. I think the header from Jones was somehow missing the target, but such is my bromance for him, I would award him the goal.

United followed up this goal with perhaps their best phase of the match. City could hardly get out of their own half. But with around ten minutes left City sucker punched us. Sub Sergio Aguero dodged a series of quite weak tackles, Phil Jones in particular dived in. This allowed Aguero to enter the penalty area and smash home into the roof of the net. It was a shame for Phil Jones, because otherwise he would be my sure fire man of the match.

United threw men forward but just couldn't find a goal. The last touch of the match came from Patrice Evra's header from a corner, but it was straight at Hard.

It doesn't matter. Yes, it is very disappointing to lose a derby. But we only need ten points. Everybody would have taken this position at the start of the season.

We next go to Stoke. It is ussually a tough game but they are woefully out of form. And we have been so clinical in taking the three points in these "tricky on paper" away games.
