I've tried to take Rooney's recent injury as objectively as I can but my mind can't help but wonder, it's an awfully convenient time to get injured if you want to get away from the club. I don't want to be one of those wild conspiracy theorists but one can't help but wonder, why did United publish the news of the injury so quickly? I gave it a nights thought and I can only see three scenarios,
1. Stop any further speculation:
This is probably the most likely case and I'm hoping its true. Rooney actually has a hamstring injury (hope he gets better ASAP) and United didn't want anyone questioning why he was not playing. I certainly would have blown a gasket if Rooney didn't start/play the first game of the tour, and the mass of speculation regarding Rooney would have just blown out of proportion.
2. A fed up Rooney:
It could be that Rooney just does not want to play for us anymore. I mean Moyes can only "categorically" say that Rooney is training well. I'm not trying to be pessimist but that is definitely not what I wanted to hear. The press conference didn't nothing to stop my anxiety and maybe Rooney refuses to play another game for us and would rather be home grinding out a move.
3. United cover up:
This is by far the most far fetched one that I can think of. Its the fact that United say Rooney should be fit before the season starts and Moyes doesn't want Rooney creating problems in the dressing room. So Rooney is being sent home so if any papers need to be singed, he is available.
The only thing I can definitely say is this is worst thing that could have happened to the whole Rooney situation right now. Watching Rooney play a solid game in the preseason tour would have at least given United some form of closure, but then again there's our midfield.
