Not the new Messiah

In a season of bitter disappointments, dodgy refereeing decisions ,crucial injuries to star players and at times rank bad luck, the signing of Juan Mata to some May herald the second coming of the Messiah.

Many felt Monsieur Eric Cantona was the first.

The enigmatic Frenchman arrived in1992 and seven months later the first of the 13 Premiership trophies was secured.

But let's just calm things down a little, there is he going to be no repeat of that historic feet this May.

Expectations will be high of course and we will surely be treated to some creative midfield play so sadly missing this season and even before .

But he should only be the start of a revolution -not a transition-which I think Moyes is planning and may take till the end of the summer to put in place.

Mata cannot be expected to do it on his own and there must be a number of other additions to,sound the alarm bells in the dressing room that no-ones place is safe.

Some of our elderly citizens and a few of the younger ones as well will fear the inevitable as the manager shows his teeth in a major overhaul that will demonstrate a ruthless streak in a bid to launch a serious challenge on all fronts next season.

The January window is almost ready to close but one other defensive recruit would really send out a message of intent to all out rivals.
