First of all, the most important thing to emerge from Louis van Gaal's press conference: Manchester United picked up no new injuries against Wolfsburg, and Michael Carrick will be fit enough to play against Arsenal on the weekend. Here are a selection of other things Our Great Leader had to say, with quotes drawn from the Mirror:
He was effusive in his praise about Chris 'Mike' Smalling:
"When he does things, he does it all by himself. I help him with advice, demands and training sessions, and by showing images to improve him. But he has to be open and he has to perform on the pitch. He does everything himself. The greatest compliment you have to make is to Chris and not to me."
He made an amusing if unintentional dig at his opposite number Arsène Wenger:
"We are happy but I think Arsenal can come back from a defeat. They have shown that a lot of times ... In a technical and tactical sense Arsenal are arguably the best team in the league ... [But] they haven't won so much, so you have to look for that improvement with that team."
And finally, he revealed he even has a FATIGUE SPECIALIST to call on at Carrington:
"The solution is recovery, recovery, recovery. That is why it’s so difficult to prepare for the match against Arsenal. We have to see how the evaluation is from my fatigue specialist."
