You get the feeling that the "writers" at major papers in the UK, and around the world, just include Manchester United whenever there is a player available. Today we are being linked with a Brazilian left back and a Russian central defender. Having already brought in Chris Smalling to go along with Rio, Vida and Evans why on Earth would SAF spend more money on central defenders? Not to mention the rumor linking us with a left back when we have Evra, Fabio and De Laet. It just doesn't make sense. It doesn't pass the most basic sniff test yet they print it anyway. The most likely area to be improved now is central midfield. There are reports today that Joe Cole is likely to end up at Arsenal. He is a very talented player and is free to pick the club he wants to go to. Will be interesting to see who makes the best sales pitch to land Cole.
We are now 8 days away from the start of Le Coupe De Monde. Tomorrow I will put together a preview of the World Cup from the perspective of the United players involved. There are a couple United players I am very keen to watch at this year's WC and they aren't big names. Tosic and Hernandez are the two I am particularly interested in watching and seeing how they do on the world stage. England opening against the US should be very interesting and I can't wait. This is the most excited I have been for a World Cup since 1998. I have no idea why that is the case but I am jacked up for this tourny.
So here are the 9 United players participating in the World Cup. Who do you think will have the biggest impact on the tournament? Who is most likely to come home a winner? Which United player will come home in disgrace (Beckham, Ronaldo, it happens and we win the title the year after it happens as well)?
England - Ferdinand, Rooney, Carrick
Serbia - Vidic, Tosic
France - Evra
Portugal - Nani
Mexico - Chicharito
South Korea - Ji-Sung Park
