It's always nice knowing that as a United fan I can expect my team to really bounce back after a loss and perform. Our manager makes sure that this team avoids any long dips in form by coming out the game after a poor performance fired up and ready to go. There is a great deal of comfort in that. I also take a great deal of comfort from a group of young United players, sprinkled in with a few wise old heads, dismantling an entire league's "All Stars". Maybe it's because I am Canadian and, despite really liking America and it's people, once in a while I get tired of how good they are at sports. I like beating them at Hockey and I love to see their "Soccer" league continue to be a joke. What ever the reasons for it, and maybe it's just cause Alexi Lalas is a douche, I really enjoyed watching that game last night.
Two goals for Macheda, one for Chicharito, Cleverley who looked very good and Gibson with a fine free kick did the damage for United. It was extremely pleasing to see the young strikers get on the board and let's be honest Scholes' passing combined with Chicharito's speed could be a very dangerous combination that we can use to unlock defenses. You also have to think that Michael Owen, who used to have similar pace to the Mexican, is a nice player to have around for Chicharito to learn from. Maybe in time Rooney can drop off Hernandez a little and not always been leading the line. Might keep him fresher and healthier if he isn't relied on to be the point of attack all the time. In fact, if Macheda continues the form he is in maybe Rooney can play a little deeper when the young Italian plays as well. Let's not forget how many goals Rooney set up for the likes of Ronaldo and Van Nistelrooy when they played together. He is a player who can score 20 and create 20 if he is played in the right way with the right players around him.
I am also very happy about the 188 comments we had on the game thread. Very happy. Well done to all of you for getting involved. I hope to see that number grow as the season gets under way.
Oh and as a Canadian I will say this...Dwayne DeRosario is a good player.
Next up it's Chivas Guadalajara and a chance to see Chicharito play for two teams in the same game. You have to imagine it is pretty special for a young player to return to his former club and play in front of his adoring fans in the shirt of the greatest team in the world. Let's see if he can handle the occasion. Something that is expected of a United player.
