Manchester United may be in pursuit of Danish international and Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen according to a report by the Daily Star Sunday. The 19-year-old is highly rated and aside from United, he also appears to be on the radar for the likes of Manchester City and FC Barcelona. Eriksen had an impressive display versus England in February during a friendly in Copenhagen. He was also recently recognized as 'Dutch Talent of the Year' while playing in the Eredivisie. Here is what Dutch legend Johan Cruyff had to say about the youngster after he was given this award:
"This prize is just the start for him. It should prompt him to try to get the best out of his career. The talent is there, the recognition also, now it is up to the player. He is a typical Danish player. You can compare him with Brian and Michael Laudrup, and only time will tell if he can reach the same level."
Finding Paul Scholes replacement has been a hot topic of discussion when it comes to transfer talk in regards to United. The Reds spent roughly £50 million last summer on winger Ashley Young, defender Phil Jones, and goalkeeper David De Gea. However, no central midfielders were brought in -- a position that is typically thought of as a relative weak one for the squad. Eriksen is a fantastic talent and he could potentially be an exciting addition to United's midfield. Here is what a Scandinavian source told the Daily Star Sunday:
"United are hot on him. Trust me, they want him and £20 million is the price being bandied around."
These sort of rumors are common occurrence so it is difficult to judge the reliability of this particular one. Nonetheless, it certainly would make sense if this move is made by manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Eriksen's technical ability is superb and perhaps he could provide a spark to a midfield that sometimes lack creativity.
