According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United FC manager Sir Alex Ferguson has agreed in principle to sign Everton FC midfielder Jack Rodwell for a 25-million pound transfer fee in the summer. The 20-year-old has long been rumored to be a target of United, including rumors that the club made a 15-million pound bid for Rodwell in the past January transfer window. With the current financial difficulties that the Toffees face, a fee of 25-million pounds seemingly would be difficult to turn down. Rodwell is considered to be one of the brighter prospects in Europe and Everton may be forced to cash-in on their wonderkid. United have recently signed midfielders Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, and Anderson to long-term deals, however, uncertainty remains with Paul Scholes and whether the midfield maestro will retire or not at season's end. Furthermore, the central midfield has been a lightning rod for criticism at times this season when United have failed to impress in matches. If the rumors prove to be true, Rodwell's potential arrival at Old Trafford in the summer would undoubtedly be welcomed by United supporters.
