Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has reportedly been included on a shortlist of six PFA Player of the Year candidates according to the Daily Mail. The center-back is joined by Blackpool's Charlie Adam, Tottenham Hotspur's Gareth Bale, Arsenal FC's Samir Nasri, West Ham United's Scott Parker, and Manchester City's Carlos Tevez. A United player has earned the award the past four seasons; Cristiano Ronaldo (2006-07, 2007-08), Ryan Giggs (2008-09), and Wayne Rooney (2009-10).

If the report is true, United winger Nani can be considered a surprise omission. The Portuguese international has 10 goals and 14 assists this season in all competitions and he has been United's most consistent attacker. In comparison, Bale has 11 goals and 3 assists while Nasri has contributed 15 goals and 4 assists. The winner of the PFA Player of the Year award will be announced at a dinner on 17 April. About seven weeks ago, I made my case for Vidic as Player of the Year and despite his shocker last weekend versus West Ham, nothing has changed my opinion.
