Manchester United appear to be on the verge on signing Blackburn Rover's Phil Jones in a £18 million deal. The versatile 19-year-old center-back, who also has shown his versatility as a holding midfielder and right-back, is reportedly having a medical done ahead of his move to Old Trafford. There has been recent rumors that Liverpool FC and Arsenal FC have shown interest in the England U-21 international, but United have apparently won the race to sign the highly rated teenager. Striker Wayne Rooney appears keen on the move:

"Phil jones is a good young English player. 1 of the toughest defenders I played against last season. Can midfield to."

How this apparent move effects other summer business for United is pure speculation at this point. However, bringing in Jones could bring up questions in regards to the future of Jonny Evans - the United center-back struggled at times through the past season after being impressive in season's prior. In addition, if Jones is to be used as a defensive midfielder, this may influence United's ambition to sign Everton's Jack Rodwell - who has long been linked for a move to Old Trafford.
