According to Manchester United assistant coach Rene Meulensteen, in an interview with Dutch magazine Voetbal International, Inter's Wesley Sneijder would be a "perfect" fit at Old Trafford. I disagree - I still think a Luka Modric or Bastian Schweinsteiger, who has been linked to United again by some publications, passers that can play a bit deeper in the midfield, are better suited for United's current side and tactics. I have discussed this point quite a bit as of late, but Wayne Rooney's recent role, one that has him dropping deep between the midfield and attacking lines, is similar to the space that Sneijder likes to occupy. The Dutch playmaker is undoubtedly brilliant, and he would be wonderful on the occasions that manager Sir Alex Ferguson deployed a three-man central midfield with Rooney in the attacking band - but this is not a shape that will be used the majority of the time. Would he make our team better? Of course. Would buying him be a good use of resources? I would argue no. Anyway, here are the quotes from Meulensteen:

" I don't say that because he is Dutch. I have been at Manchester United for awhile, I know all the ins and outs of the team and I know that he would be a great reinforcement. The new Paul Scholes does not exist, just at there is not a new Roy Keane, but I cannot think of anyone more perfect for us than Sneijder. He is not a runner, but perfectly two-footed. He can run the game and puts the ball wherever he wants. To me, he seems a perfect addition to players like Hernandez, Rooney, Park, Young, Valencia, Nani, and Giggs. Plus, Wesley has plenty of experience in top football, of course. I don't know how his future is at Inter, of course - whether he is allowed to leave and whether we can get him. But purely on the basis of his ability, I would say 'Get Sneijder'."
