Manchester United opened the English Premier League season at the Hawthorns with a 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion. After a fast and fluid start, the peak of which was a Wayne Rooney left-footed strike in the 13th minute, United had the wind taken out of their sails with a Shane Long equaliser in the 37th minute. The Reds then failed to inspire for quite some time - that is until Ashley Young, who had been terrorizing the Baggies down the left flank the entire match, surged into the box and had a deflected cross go into goal in the 80th minute. United then did well to finish out the match and earn three vital away points - something which title-contending rivals Chelsea FC and Arsenal FC failed to do during the opening weekend of league play.
Feel free to share your thoughts on United's opening match in the comments below. An obvious talking point during the coming week will be David de Gea - does the young goalkeeper genuinely worry you? Should the youngster be given more time? Should Anders Lindegaard get the start next week versus Tottenham Hotspur? How worried are you about the knocks Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand suffered? Your man of the match?
