Shockingly, it took a Ashley Young 90th minute equaliser to salvage a single point for Manchester United in their 3-3 draw versus FC Basel at Old Trafford. It looked to be a stroll in the park for the Reds when Danny Welbeck bagged an early brace after two beautiful passes were played in to him by Ryan Giggs. However, United failed kill off the match when both complacency and poor performances in defense allowed the visitors to stunningly go ahead 3-2. It could be argued that the referring was poor in this match but more worrisome for United supporters is the poor defending from the entire back four in this match. In the other group C match for the day, SL Benfica earned a 1-0 away versus Otelul Galati. Both Basel and Benfica find themselves top of the group with four points after two matches while United sit third with just two points. It would still be a surprise if United were not to advance to the knock-out stages but today's match should be a sobering reminder what can happen when complacency sets in.
