Manchester United Team News for Norwich City: Rooney & Evans a doubt while Jones will return at Galatasaray

A mixed bag of injury news for Manchester United's trip to Carrow Road to take on Norwich City on Saturday. Robin van Persie should feature though while Javier Hernandez (Chicharito) will get a start.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson just concluded his weekly press conference a few hours ago and during it, the main pieces of news were that Wayne Rooney is a doubt for tomorrow's tie versus Norwich City and that Phil Jones will make return for next midweek's tie at Galatasaray. Here is what the gaffer had to say:

"We've still got some doubts about Wayne and Jonny Evans. I think Robin [van Persie] should be fit. We'll see what they are like today but there is a doubt. Phil Jones has been training all week. We will take him to Turkey [to play Galatasaray in the Champions League] with us. He’ll get part of it there, which is a good start for him. Bringing on Chicharito [at Aston Villa] was good for us and he should start tomorrow."

Jones, Nemanja Vidic, and Shinji Kagawa were expected to miss tomorrow's league match at Carrow Road and that has essentially been confirmed. The likes of Rooney, Robin van Persie, Jonny Evans, and Nani all missed international fixtures at the midweek due to minor knocks. Of these latter four players, it sounds as if only RvP will feature and he'll be starting up front with the in-form Javier Hernandez.

With Nani out, that makes it likely that Antonio Valencia starts on the right-wing -- assuming Ferguson doesn't use a midfield diamond system -- while Ashley Young can be anticipated on the opposite flank, although Danny Welbeck will be in contention on the left as well. Ryan Giggs, the midfielder that scored a stoppage-time winner during this same fixture last season, could also pop up on the left.

If Evans is out, then that means Chris Smalling will start alongside Rio Ferdinand in central-defense and they'll likely be flanked by Patrice Evra at left-back and Rafael at right-back.
