Manchester United Team News for Queens Park Rangers -- Wayne Rooney will return

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson just held his weekly press conference ahead of his side's clash with Queens Park Rangers and the major news was... well, there is no real new news. The highlight, though, is that Wayne Rooney is available after missing out last weekend due to illness. Here is what the gaffer had to say about his star player and on the other injury concerns to his squad:

"Wayne Rooney is fit and has been training all week which is good for us. Jonny Evans will hopefully train today but I don't know if he will be available. [Chris] Smalling should be available. He had a small shoulder injury the other night. I wanted to play Jones anyway and he did very well in his first game. Nani is not available yet. He has got a problem with his hamstring."

That's basically the update. Expect Rooney to play in behind Robin van Persie in attack and with Nani out of contention, that likely means Antonio Valencia as the right-winger and Ashley Young as the left-winger. Chris Smalling likely joins Rio Ferdinand in central-defense.

You never know with Fergie, but if I had to guess, Jones might come into the midweek match versus West Ham United at right-back and give Rafael a well deserved rest. It's very possible Ferguson will try to stack some height into his versus Sam Allaydyce's side at the midweek.

So overall, it seems as if Nani, Evans, Nemanja Vidic, and Shinji Kagawa are out for the QPR tie. No clarification though on David de Gea's wisdom teeth situation.

Oh, Sir Alex had this comment on Chelsea sacking Roberto Di Matteo and hiring Roberto Martinez:

"Everyone feels for Roberto Di Matteo. Quite rightly too. It's amazing when you consider he's won the Champions League. You would have thought they would have waited to let the guy try and win a Club World Cup. A few weeks ago we were thinking it would be a three-horse title race. That's not out of the question. Chelsea have a big squad and lots of experience and they've brought in a couple of young players in Hazard and Oscar. They have a sprinkling of youth coming through too. You can't dismiss them. Benitez has been trying to get a job for a long time - I hope he's lucky on Sunday too!"
