Caretaker coach Stuart Pearce called a news conference today to name his first England call up today, a set of players that has great potential to play.
Here is the List from BBC Sport
Goalkeepers: Scott Carson (Bursaspor), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Robert Green (West Ham United)
Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Leighton Baines (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Micah Richards (Manchester City), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur)
Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Stewart Downing (Liverpool), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), James Milner (Manchester City), Scott Parker (Tottenham Hotspur), Ashley Young (Manchester United), Theo Walcott (Arsenal)
Forwards: Darren Bent (Aston Villa), Fraizer Campbell (Sunderland), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)
Rio Ferdinand is left out. As is Chelsea's Frank Lampard and Manchester City's Jolean Lescott. The latter two put in sublime performances aginst Spain in the last international, a 1-0 win. But lets have a look at the youth of the squad.
Former Red Devil Fraizer Campbell earns a first call up alongside Cleverley. campbell has just returned form a serious knee injury and has impressed since returning for Sunderland. Other red devils to earn a call up are Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Ashley Young and Danny Welbeck.
Here is who I would like to see play out of the players selected.
GK - Joe Hart - Established number one. Enough said.
RB - Micah Richards - Left out in the cold by Fabio Capello. God knows why. He has argubly been the best RB in the league. But Kyle walker is hot on his heels
CB - Chris Smalling - I think his form ever since joining Manchester United means he deserves a chance to prove himself in the White shirt of England.
CB - Gary Cahill. Hasn't enjoyed the best results with his new club Chelsea. But that is not down to him as the whole club is in turmoil. i think he deserves a chance to prove himself
LB - Leighton Baines. A sweet left foot and he is amongsth the most consistant performers in the Premier League. With Ashley Cole not performing to his usual standards, there is a chance for him to stake a claim dor the number 3 shirt
RM - Adam Johnson - I think he amongst the most talented of individuals in the Premier League. His abilty to dribble around players is rare for an englishman. I hope we tap into his talent
CM - Scott Parker - He should be captain in my eyes. Fantastic player. A shoe in to start for the Euro's
LM - James milner - As hard a working player as you ever will find. He is very versatile and allows tactical shifts if needed. Found some end product this year with his club too.
STR - Wayne Rooney - A chance to see how he and his partner performs at International level. See if they can match their club form together
STR - Danny Welbeck - An opportunity to stake his claim as the man to pick in Wayne Rooney's absence in the first two games of the Euro's.
I would like to see Tom Cleverley start on the bench and come on. As well as other relative newbies, Kyle Walker and Daniel Sturridge and Campbell. I am slightly dissapointed Alex-Oxlaide Chamberlain hasn't made the cut. But I am sure he will go to the Euro's. You cannot waste that mans talent by keeping him in the under 21's.
Stuart Pearce also confrimed that he is willing to lead the team into the Euro's, if Harry Redknapp decides he does not want to leave Spurs (As if that will happen)
