Manchester United V Chelsea: Player Ratings

Getty Images

Here are the ratings for yesterdays brilliant game on superbowl Sunday. Manchester United arguably were not deserving of going down three nil, but they came storming back to tie the game 3-3.

A score of 1 being the lowest (Stefan Savic standard), 10 being the highest (Messi like) A score of 6 will be standard, 7 is solid, a very good game will get an 8, 9 is good for outstanding and 10 is unplayable. 10's will be very rare. Not only will they have to play the game of their life, but it will usually come against a team of good quality or in a big match (FInals, championship deciding game's etc.)

David De Gea - Maybe his finest game in Manchester United colours. Looked nervous early on, exhibited with punching a ball that my gran could have caught. But oh my did he make up for any shortcomings. Made some smart stops in the first half but made three or four top class saves and one a truly world class save from Jaun Mata's late free kick that could have won it for Chelsea. That for me was save of the season so far. 8/10

Rafael - The best of the United defenders. Kept Malouda quiet and won the ball back on numerous occasions. He is fantastic at nipping in front of attackers to nick the ball. 6.5/10

Rio Ferdinand - Not his finest hour. I think Torres had his number. Made a careless pass or two which is rare for him. Part of a defense that let in 3 goals. 4.5/10

Jonny Evans - See above. 4.5/10

Patrice Evra - Awful. Arguably at fault for all three goals. Sturridge beat him far too easily for the first. Got sucked inside and had no chance of cutting out the cross for the second. And let his man go for the third. Won the first penalty, but that was an appalling game for our stand in captain. 3/10

Antonio Valencia - Not up to his recent standard. Maybe because the service out to him was not quick enough but Boswinga handled him well in my opinion. His passing has improved though. He set Rooney free in the first half who should have done better. Played well when moved to RB too. 6.5/10

Micheal Carrick - Done quite well. He gets through so much work that goes unnoticed. Passing as ever was very good. Can't wait until Tom Cleverley gets back to see how they play together. 6.5/10

Ryan Giggs - Was a little quiet, but his experience shone when he whipped in the ball for Hernandez to head home the equaliser. The pace of the game was so quick that I thought Park could have come on for him when we were chasing goals. But his cross proved me wrong. 6/10

Ashley Young - Was difficult for him, playing in such a massive game after a while out injured. Had a good effort in the first half saved, but other than that the pace was a little too much. Was often caught on his heels when passes was played which allowed Branislav Ivanovic to intercept. 5/10

Wayne Rooney - Had a very good game. Linked the play so well with one and two touch passes. Maybe should have shot when he had the chance in the first half, instead of feeding Welbeck. Second half he was different class. Took the game by the scruff of the neck. Constantly picked the ball up from deep and drove at the defense. Took his Peno's very well. The first one was emphatic (So emphatic I thought he had blazed it over) 8/10

Danny Welbeck - Was liveley. Not his best performance but worked hard and linked up with Rooney well, particularly in the first half. His runs in behind looked to cause Chelsea problems early on. Won the second penalty (Left his leg to be tripped just a tad) Was subbed once we got the equaliser. 6.5/10

Javier Hernandez - A real classy performance. Took up so many positions that caused the defense problems. Held the ball up well and linked up with Rooney and Welbeck well. An Olympic high jumper would be proud of his leap for his header. Look for him to start next week. 7/10

Paul Scholes - What more can we say about him. Like against Liverpool, he changed the game. This time though, he changed it when coming on for good, instead of coming off for bad. We switched to a 4-3-3 .... I just run out of things to say. Just a fantastic player. Hope he stays for next season. (Who is that shouting PFA player of the year??) 7/10

Ji Sung Park - Didn't really have time to affect the game after coming on for Danny. But his legs and energy was useful in a game that was played at such a tempo. N/A

Just as a note, it was mentioned in the live thread that our bench was a lot stronger than Chelsea's, and it proved to be a massive feature and swayed the game our way. Thank god our injuries seem to be healing, although maybe Chris Smalling was missed. Hopefully he is fit soon.
