It's back!. After a three game absence, the player ratings has returned. And after yesterday's wonderful 5 goal showing, lets get right to it!
A score of 1 being the lowest (Ronald Zubar standard), 10 being the highest (Messi like) A score of 6 will be standard, 7 is solid, a very good game will get an 8, 9 is good for outstanding and 10 is unplayable. 10's will be very rare. Not only will they have to play the game of their life, but it will usually come against a team of good quality or in a big match (Finals, championship deciding game's etc.)
David De Gea- Again nothing wrong with his performance. Rarely tested, but when he was, he dealt with it. 7/10
Rafael - Kept Matt Jarvis reasonably quiet. Again wasn't tested as much as he might have been had Wolves kept 11 men on the pitch. 6.5/10
Rio Ferdinand - Kept things nice and simple. His ability on the ball in games like yesterday shines through. Showed a couple of lovely bits of skill to get himself out of trouble. Gazza/Le Tissier like :) 7.5/10
Jonny Evans - I don't know how many ways I can say, "He has been our best defender this season". Another superb performance. His goal is a major plus. Hopefully the first of many. His desire to get into those positions has been evident recently. 8.5/10
Patrice Evra - Didn't totally suck!! Maybe because Wolves offered about as much threat to our goal as a Vegan in a steakhouse...... Provided us with some nice width too 6.5/10
Antonio Valencia - A powerhouse. I wouldn't be surprised if their was a vapour trail coming out of his...... He is so direct and his crossing is consistent. The fact he was returning from a month out is quite incredible. Fantastic goal and two assists. 9/10
Paul Scholes - Immediately after the game I thought he had played well. And then Gene posted these stats
96/98 passing (98%), 1 key pass, 0/0 crosses, 5/7 long balls, 0/0 through balls, 0 successful dribbles, 4 tackles, 1 interception, 0 shots
Enough said! 9/10
Micheal Carrick - Showed a slightly different element to his game at times. Made a couple of surging runs without the ball, and also looked to shoot a little more often. His second attemoted shot led to the corner for the first goal, in which he grabbed an assist. 8/10
Danny Welbeck - Ended his goal drought yesterday and again showed some nice touches. But he is too wasteful at this stage in his career. Twice yesterday he spurned 1-1 opportunities. The first, he tripped on the ball. The second, he shot straight down the throat of Wayne Hennessey. In a 5-0 win, it doesn't matter, but what if he is to waste chances like that in a potential title decider against City? 6/10
Wayne Rooney - His passing was fantastic. Where Scholes retained possession, Rooney was the probe who opened doors. A welcome return, as in previous games he had been scoring without stamping his authority on the game. Now he just needs to mix both elements together. 8.5/10
Javier Hernandez - Clinical. Danny Welbeck should take note. The boy rarely misses. 3 shots, all on target and two goals. Good job 8/10
Subs
Paul Pogba - Good passing ability, but he was hardly pressed. Made a couple of good defensive headers from set pieces. 6.5/10
Chris Smalling - Much better cameo than the one he put in against Bilbao on Thursday. 6.5/10
Fabio - Yeah.... Done his job.... Can't complain..... Had a decent shot that just whistled past the post. 6.5/10
Team Rating - This is a new thing that I am introducing. We had a great period in the middle of the game. The opening was not great, and the last 30 minutes yielded no goals despite having Wolves right on the rack. I would have preferred to have really gone for the jugular, because there were plenty of goals to be had at little or no risk of conceding. That really disappointed me. 7.5/10
