Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Paul Scholes will continue his playing career into next season. The Manchester United legend made a comeback in January, mere minutes before the two Manchester clubs took to the field before their 3rd round FA Cup clash. Ever since, he has wowed supporters with brilliant displays of passing, regularly topping 90% in pass completion.
This no doubt will be a boost for the club. A day after United conceded the title to their neighbours, one of the most decorated players ever to have come out of England will help try and reclaim the title. It has been noted that United will delve into the market, but the names that have been linked (Gaitan, Hazard, Kagawa) are nowhere near in the mould of Paul Scholes and what he brings to the table, despite his advancing years.
I am very happy with this news. Sure, he isn't the answer for the long term. But after the amount of masterful performances that the Ginger Ninja has put in from his deep lying play maker role, he most definitely will have a part to play. He will have to be used sparingly, yet when he will be used, you can bet your bottom dollar he will deliver the goods.
Here's hoping we see more pinpoint cross field passes placed on a dime, a 30 yard pile driver and maybe even a rash challenge or two.
Here's to you. Paul Scholes!
