Manchester United appear to be signing Dutch left-back Alexander Buttner

Numerous media outlets are reporting that Manchester United are on the verge of signing Vitesse left-back Alexander Buttner. Neither club has confirmed the deal yet but the 23-year-old Dutchman has been quoted about the move from Dutch media outlet Omroep Gelderland.

"This is truly a dream come true. It all went very quickly and I am of course very happy."

- Buttner

To be quite honest, I know very little about Buttner. He has played in the Eredivisie since 2008 for Vitesse and he's been on the fringes of Holland's national team recently. However, the defender has not been capped at the senior level. With Fabio on loan to Queens Park Rangers, United currently have no natural cover at left-back for Patrice Evra. The Frenchman has logged heavy minutes during his time at United and that perhaps has been somewhat of a factor in the decline of his form in recent seasons. Everton's Leighton Baines has continually been linked to Old Trafford this summer but the apparent signing of Buttner likely prevents that possibility from happening. Evra will undoubtedly be first-choice at left-back this season but having a youngster like Buttner as cover seems like a good situation for both players.
