Post-Match Reaction Thread: Manchester United 1-0 Galatasaray | UEFA Champions League

There was decent football at times by Manchester United -- particularly in the early-stages of the game -- but the overall performance was mostly unimpressive. Arguably, the performance from referee Wolfgang Stark and his assistants was even worse as both sides should likely have had two penalties awarded apiece that weren't given. Nonetheless, it's a 1-0 home victory over Galatasaray in the opening group-stage game of this season's UEFA Champions League campaign. That is something that Sir Alex Ferguson's side only achieved once last season.

The match began with a high-tempo and the Red Devils looked lively. In the 7th minute, Michael Carrick received a pass into the box from Shinji Kagawa and the midfielder calmly rounded the Galatasaray goalkeeper, Fernando Muslera, and finished his chance -- despite being taken down. Had Carrick not gone on to score the goal after being taken down, Muslera would have been sent off and United would have earned a penalty -- they'd likely have missed anyway. Speaking of missed penalties, Rafael won one in the 2nd-half and Nani took a ridiculously poor penalty that was easily saved by Muslera. The game was quite open throughout and both sides really should have scored multiple goals. United created a good amount of chances but their finishing was poor. More alarming though is how vulnerable they looked in the back.
