* Editor's note: Perhaps I should have stressed more that RvP's hat-trick versus Southampton should NOT be factored in this voting since that game did not occur in August.
The hope (again) is to get this done for the entirety of the 2012/13 season. It's always somewhat fun to look back and think to yourself, "Wow, Dimitar Berbatov was brilliant in September and October and he doesn't even play anymore despite squad rotation! What happened? (*)" It's a long season but I think it's meaningful to appreciate everyone's contribution -- especially in a grueling and tiring league-title winning season and when players might dip in form later on.
(*) Imagine having that thought for the run-in in the spring of 2011 when thinking back to the late summer and fall of 2010.
Anyway, voting for August's player of the month is somewhat straight-forward since the only matches to consider are the 0-1 away defeat by
Marouane Fellaini Everton and the 3-2 victory over Fulham. To be be quite honest, that's actually somewhat depressing since we've only played one good half of football this season and not may players played well in both matches. Be sure to exclude Southampton to the best of your abilities when evaluating on who to vote for. For example, Robin van Persie's hat-trick heroics from that match should not be considered since that match occurred in early September.
