Manchester United vs. Southampton: United drop points at home

Manchester United named an attacking lineup against Southampton, but they failed to make the most of their chances and conceded a late equaliser.

Manchester United have named Adnan Januzaj, Marouane Fellaini, Nani, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie all in the starting XI as David Moyes takes an attacking approach to taking on Southampton at Old Trafford.

Januzaj, fresh from signing a new contract, starts on the wing along with Nani, while Rooney and Van Persie start up front. Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini comprise the midfield.

In addition, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans start in central defence, with Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand both out of action.

Intriguingly, despite recent suggestions he would be loaned out, Wilfried Zaha is on the bench, along with Kagawa, Welbeck and Hernandez. Tom Cleverley, Ashley Young and Anderson are all left out of the squad entirely, with Chris Smalling the only non-attacking player on the bench other than Lindegaard.

That is a proper attacking lineup. How we actually play and approach the game remains to be seen but it's a long time since we've seen a teamsheet this promising.

Manchester United starting lineup (4-4-2): David de Gea; Rafael, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones, Patrice Evra; Nani, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Adnan Januzaj; Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie.

Southampton starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Artur Boruc; Nathaniel Clyne, Jose Fonte, Dejan Lovren, Luke Shaw; Victor Wanyama, Morgan Schneiderlin; Steven Davis, Adam Lallana, Jay Rodriguez; Pablo Osvaldo.
