There's good news and bad news in the Manchester United lineup versus Bayer Leverkusen tonight. Firstly, the good news - Phil Jones returns to midfield, Tom Cleverley isn't playing, neither is Ashley Young, and Nani also gets a chance to start.
Now, the bad news - there's still no Rafael to be seen, no Robin van Persie, and no Adnan Januzaj either. Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez are also both benched.
Now, the news that may be good or bad depending on your point of view: Jones starts despite a difficult weekend game when we're really going to need him. Giggs starts. Shinji Kagawa, interestingly, gets to operate in the hole. I've long been skeptical of the view that this will instantly turn him into Lionel Messi, but I'm very intrigued to see the results of this experiment.
Manchester United starting lineup: David De Gea; Chris Smalling, Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra; Phil Jones, Ryan Giggs; Antonio Valencia, Shinji Kagawa, Nani, Wayne Rooney.
Subs: Anders Lindegaard, Anderson, Alexander Buttner, Ashley Young, Tom Cleverley, Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck.
Bayer Leverkusen starting lineup: Leno; Can, Spahic, Donati, Toprak; Reinartz; Rolfes, Bender; Son, Castro; Kießling.
