Ryan Giggs signs a new one-year contract

Ryan Giggs will continue on at Old Trafford until at least June 2014.

One more year (at least).

The era of Ryan Giggs will continue on for at least another season. The legendary 39-year-old -- who has made 999 appearances during his glorious career (931 for club, 64 for Wales, 4 for Great Britain) -- has penned a new one-year-deal, one that will take him into his 23rd season as a first-team player at Manchester United. Here is what manager Sir Alex Ferguson had to say about the Welshman signing on for another year:

"What can I say about Ryan that hasn’t already been said? He is a marvellous player and an exceptional human being. Ryan is an example to us all, the way in which he has, and continues to, look after himself. He has fantastic energy for the game and it is wonderful to see. Ryan seems to reach a new milestone every week and to think that he now has 23 unbroken years of league goals behind him is truly amazing in the modern-day game. His form this year shows his ability and his enjoyment of the game are as strong as ever and I am absolutely delighted that he has signed a new contract."

Here's what Giggsy had to say about his new deal:

"I am feeling good, enjoying my football more than ever and, most importantly, I feel I am making a contribution to the team. This is an exciting team to be part of, with great team spirit, and we are again pushing for trophies as we head towards the business end of the season. I am delighted to have signed a new contract. I would like to thank Sir Alex and the coaching staff and I would also like to thank David Gill who has been a tremendous support over my many years here."

The legend has won 2 European Cups, 12 Premier League titles, 4 FA Cups, and 3 League Cups. As far as I'm concerned, he can do whatever he wants.

Giggs struggled at times last season and in the early parts of this season. However, his form has been impressive the past few months and it's been a treat to watch. The Welshman has been carving up opponents on the wing again as of late with craft and guile while he's also been pulling the strings from the center of the park when he's deployed there. There's also the assumption that he likely remains invaluable in the dressing room.

What a servant Ryan Giggs has been to Manchester United. What a privilege it is for Manchester United to have such a servant.
