Reports tonight suggest that Paul Scholes is set to retire for the second time at the end of the season
Another Manchester United legend is set to depart in the summer, leaving just one....
Paul Scholes has already retired once, and saw fit to return about six months later. However one feels this time is for good. With Sir Alex Ferguson leaving as well, that just leaves Ryan Giggs of the "old guard" standing. At least he has signed a one year deal to play on next year.
Watching Scholes for the second half of last season was an absolute treat. The way he played in his first game back against Manchester City was truly astounding. And he carried that form on untill the end, forming a fantastic partnership with Michael Carrick. His range of passing will be sorely missed, and if I see a better distributor of the ball play for United, we shall be lucky. Five yards or fifty, it does not matter to him. He could hit a coin from any range.
If this is confirmed, no doubt we will have more in the coming days. But what a week Manchester United have endured. It really is a changing of the guard in the summer, especially if Wayne Rooney sees fit to bugger off.....
