Manchester United youngster Angelo Henriquez, who spent last season on loan at Wigan and bizarrely barely played more than twenty minutes in the Premier League, despite scoring in that brief cameo, was in action for Chile at the Under-20 World Cup today as they took on Egypt.
Unfortunately, it was a pretty rubbish performance from the youngster. He was played out of position on the right wing, and has apparently been ill this week, but his decision-making was poor all game. When Chile scored their equaliser, some smart passing had torn the Egyptian defence wide open, but Henriquez almost wasted the opportunity by looking for goal himself when he had two teammates unmarked to lay the ball off to.
Most notably, Henriquez was played clean through in the second half, but scuffed a poor finish wide to sum up his game. Although out on the wing, he showed little evidence that it was wise to play him there, offering little in terms of playmaking or wing ability. As such, it was no surprise when he was eventually subbed off around the hour mark.
It'd be harsh to judge him on this one performance, and we should see more of him as the tournament goes on, but this was a pretty awful performance.Chile managed a 2-1 win over Egypt in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, but Angelo Henriquez played little part in it.
