The Premier League returns: Open thread

The Premier League is back, and it's a real glamour tie to kick things off as Liverpool host Stoke. Plus some other stuff later, and then Manchester United.

"It is pleasant, when the sea is high and the winds are dashing the waves about, to watch from shore the struggle of another." - Lucretius

Yes, it's that time of year again. The Premier League is back, and what better way to fill you with vim and vigour for the season than watching Liverpool host Stoke City?

Well, tough, because that's what we've been landed with. There's also some potential intrigue in the 3pm kick-offs - Sunderland! Cardiff! and many, many more towns that operate as a mere byword for the crushing despair of post-Thatcherism, before we get onto the business of the only team that matters later on - obviously, we'll have full coverage of that as it happens. We'll also let you know should United happen to sign Cesc Fabregas or should Cristiano Ronaldo be spotted in the Arndale. But in the meantime, feel free to talk among yourselves here on matters not pertaining to United.
