United get an intriguing Champions League group

Manchester United will face Bayer Leverkusen, Real Sociedad and Shakhtar Donetsk in a potentially tricky Champions League group stage.

Manchester United have a potentially tricky Champions League group stage, with no other top-tier teams but three difficult sides and no easy games.

Shakhtar Donetsk will be a long and arduous away trip, while Bayer Leverkusen and Real Sociedad will also be difficult competition.

If you're an away traveller, then it's not the best selection of cities either. Donetsk and Leverkusen aren't exactly towns best known for partying, and I'm reliably informed that San Sebastian is highly overrated. In that sense, it's not a great group for us by any definition - no real glamour ties, a big potential for upsets, and a collection of dull places.

Still, it could have been worse, as Arsenal fans will attest. We should still be qualifying from this without any problems at all, and we'll get an early test for David Moyes in the Champions League. Let's just hope we have a few new additions to our squad by then.
