Shinji Kagawa makes a surprise start for Manchester United as they take on Bayer Leverkusen at Old Trafford.
The Japanese playmaker had been rumoured to be out of favour with new manager David Moyes, but he gets the nod in midfield along with new signing Marouane Fellaini, who also starts. Rafael is still not ready to return to the team, with Chris Smalling in his place rather than Phil Jones.
Bayer, meanwhile, line up with Emre Can and Simon Rolfes in a solid-looking base, with Son Heung-Min the playmaker just ahead. Stefan Kiessling leads the line up front.
Rafael will be a big miss, and while Smalling is the least attacking of our possible right-backs, Phil Jones has played very poorly there of late so it's not surprise to see him dropped. No Lars Bender means one midfielder we probably should and could have signed is absent, but we get to see another in Emre Can. Yippee!
Manchester United starting line-up: David De Gea; Chris Smalling, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra; Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini; Antonio Valencia, Shinji Kagawa Wayne Rooney; Robin van Persie.
Bayer Leverkusen starting line-up: Bernd Leno, Emir Spahic, Sebastian Boenisch, Omer Toprak, Giulio Donati, Stefan Reinartz, Simon Rolfes, Emre Can, Sidnei Sam, Son Heung-Min, Stefan Kiessling
