Manchester United's deadline-day Herrera bid could be over

Manchester United appear to have failed in their bid to sign Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao as reports suggested the deal was off.

Manchester United appear to have suffered a late disaster on deadline day as their bid for Ander Herrera now appears to be dead.

United had attempted to secure a deal with Athletic Bilbao for the midfielder, but despite many promising signs, it seems that some sort of snag has prevented the deal from going ahead, with "bureatucratic" issues cited by Sky and ESPN for the deal hitting a snag, although AS state that Manchester United have simply decided not to pay the buyout clause.

The reason could be a combination of the two, with United perhaps having to pay more than expected, but things look bleak now - there's a lot less chance of this going ahead, although of course there is still time. Marouane Fellaini is still available, although time is running out there too. This is bordering on a farcical window for the club, who may have put their new manager at a severe disadvantage.
