It's Derby Day, and the biggest news in unfortunate for Manchester United. A thigh injury in training Saturday means the classy Dutch talisman misses out. The silver lining is that the forward was in contention to start, though, so he should not be out too long. Danny Welbeck fills in instead, and as the Real Madrid tie last season showed, he's no douche.
Weigh in with your thoughts, though this author can't shake off the feeling that the Reds are a man down before starting.
Starting Lineups
Manchester City (4-2-2-2): Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Nastasic, Kolarov; Fernandinho, Toure; Nasri, Navas; Aguero, Negredo.
Subs: Pantilimon, Lescott, Richards, Garcia, Milner, Jovetic, Dzeko
Manchester United (4-4-1-1): De Gea; Smalling, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra; Carrick, Fellani; Young, Welbeck, Valencia, Rooney.
Subs: Amos, Evans, Hernandez, Nani, Cleverley, Kagawa, Buttner
Reaction: Two speedy wingers known for defensive work rate, the defensively focused Chris Smalling at RB, and Nani and Kagawa on the bench. David Moyes seems to be angling towards a counterattacking approach here. The power of Fellaini and the calm of Carrick should conceivably allow for a number of breakups and passes up front, with City eager to impress at home.
