Manchester United could be interested in signing Marek Hamsik, as David Moyes is reportedly set to watch Napoli in the Coppa Italia this evening with the Slovakian the target, according to several reports from Italy.
Hamsik would be very difficult to get hold of - he's not really shown much interest in leaving Napoli despite being consistently excellent there, and has proved a lot easier to keep hold of than Edinson Cavani. But there's always the possibility that United can make Napoli an offer they can't refuse.
Hamsik is a truly outstanding player, capable of playing in a number of positions and is a prolific scorer and creator of goals. While his best position is behind the striker, where we already have plenty of competition, he has played elsewhere in the past. Although the fact that we'd need to pay a hefty sum and then presumably play him on the wing most of the same suggests this would be a bit of a strange deal.
Hamsik is a rarity in that he's a truly world-class talent among the best in the world in his position, but he plays for a club significantly below United's stature in the game. That alone makes him a very viable target, and while it's difficult to see this deal happening anytime soon (or Moyes could just be interested in other players), there's presumably a good reason for Moyes to be taking time away during the window.
