Star defender: Manchester United transfer "will be sorted at the end of the month"

Bayern Munich centre-back Dante has suddenly emerged as a transfer target for Manchester United, with the defender suggesting a deal could be close.

Manchester United could be about to wrap up a surprise transfer out of nowhere as Bayern Munich's Dante heavily hinted that he could be on his way to Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old centre-back had it put to him during an interview that a move to United was done, and he apparently replied "I'm thankful for the Manchester United interest, hopefully it will all be sorted by the end of the month."

This has kind of come out of nowhere, and seems to be moving very quickly. It's possible something could have been lost in translation, and that a deal is nowhere near this close, as there's been little suggestion beforehand that the club would make a move.

Dante is obviously an experienced defender who still has a couple of years at least left in him at the highest level and would be a decent stop-gap while Rio Ferdinand continues to be awful, Nemanja Vidic struggles with injuries, and the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling fail to cement a first-team place for now. He'd also bring some pace to the backline, despite his age.
