Chelsea have reportedly completed a deal for Mohamed Salah from Basel, for a fee believed to be around £11m.
This is good news for United fans for two reasons. Firstly, they beat Liverpool to the signing, who thought they had it sewn up for weeks. Which is funny, and sets them back for the race for the top four.
Secondly though, it should free up Chelsea to let Juan Mata sign for Manchester United, which we've been expecting to happen at some point all day but hasn't yet quite materialised.
Based on all we have to go on, we'd be absolutely amazed if this wasn't tied up very soon, but of course, it's not over until it's over. Thankfully, reports of Bayern Munich making a late bid turned out to be utter fabrication. Still, fingers crossed. There's always drama when Ed Woodward is in charge. Who said things wouldn't be as exciting after Ferguson left?
