United striker Robin van Persie will miss the Netherlands' friendly against Mexico on Wednesday with a "minor injury." Fortunately, "minor" doesn't seem to be being used euphemistically, as there's hope the veteran forward could recover in time to play in their Euro 2016 qualifier against Latvia on the weekend.
Quoted in the Guardian, Dutch manager Guus Hiddink said:
"Van Persie is not quite fit. He trained today, but he did not fully participate. I don't think he will be used against Mexico."
That he was fit enough to at least do some training is probably a good sign. His injury shouldn't be a long layoff. That's good news for both United and the Netherlands, particularly with the Red Devils seemingly having Radamel Falcao sidelined indefinitely with some kind of mysterious injury in the leg region.
Van Persie may not have been in red-hot form so far this season, but he's been the best option at Louis van Gaal's disposal.
