Ander Herrera may have been impressive in Manchester United's victory over Stoke City last weekend, but apparently he wasn't quite impressive enough. The Spaniard has dropped to the bench as Wayne Rooney returns to Louis van Gaal's starting lineup for tonight's clash away at Southampton.
James Wilson has also dropped to the bench to make way for young centre-back Paddy McNair, as van Gaal reverts to the 3-5-2 formation last used as United romped to a comfortable victory squeaked unconvincingly past Arsène Wenger's Arsenal.
Ronald Koeman has named a Southampton team that looks a little more attack-heavy than usual. Shane Long seemingly starts up alongside Graziano Pellè, with Sadio Mané and Dušan Tadić out wide.
Manchester United starting lineup (3-5-2): David De Gea; Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Paddy McNair; Ashley Young, Juan Mata, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini, Antonio Valencia; Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie.
Subs: Anders Lindegaard, Jonny Evans, Ander Herrera, Darren Fletcher, Adnan Januzaj, James Wilson, Radamel Falcao.
Southampton: Fraser Forster; Ryan Bertrand, José Fonte, Maya Yoshida, Nathaniel Clyne; Sadio Mané, Victor Wanyama, Steven Davis, Dušan Tadić; Graziano Pellè, Shane Long.
