Today marks the 56th anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster, with the club paying tribute to those lost in the accident.
Matt Busby's legendary 'Busby Babes' team was decimated in the tragedy, which nearly claimed the life of the man himself too. Geoff Bent, Roger Byrne, Eddie Colman, Duncan Edwards, Mark Jones, David Pegg, Tommy Taylor and Billy Whelan were the United players who lost their lives, with three staff members also failing to make it out alive. Johnny Berry and Jackie Blanchflower, two other players, survived but never played again.
For a deeper history and full tributes, it's probably a good idea to check out the Official Club Website, which has plenty of material up on the subject today. If you're interested, the entire film 'United', a made-for-TV BBC production from a few years ago, is on Youtube. For obvious reasons, it's probably not going to be on there forever, but if you've got an evening to watch it, then here it is.
