Manchester United could return with another bid for Ander Herrera, according to the Daily Mail.
United pursued the Spanish midfielder in the summer transfer window following David Moyes' appointment, but despite some deadline-day shenanigans involving fake lawyers and numerous false reports, no move materialised amid claims United just didn't think he was worth the £26m fee.
Apparently, however, United could make another move. Whether this is because the club suspect he'll be let go for less than his release clause is open to debate - the report doesn't say - although some negotiation is probably likely anyway. Ordinarily that might be the case - particularly with Herrera's clause going up to 37m in July. But this is Athletic Bilbao. They only sign Basque players, so they can't exactly just go out and spend the money on whoever they want. They'll only sell him if it's absolutely essential - IE, if United meet the asking price.
While the transfer fee does seem rather steep, TBB rather likes the look of the lad whenever we've seen him. A classic Spanish midfielder in terms of passing, touch and possession, but he can also run with the ball and he's a scrapper with it, which should ensure he adapts well to life in England. Is it too much? Who cares?
