United considering audacious swoop for Chelsea boss

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, United are considering a move for Chelsea boss José Mourinho.

The Special One should've almost certainly been the Chosen One when Sir Alex Ferguson retired last season, and according to a report from Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Manchester United are looking to rectify their error by trying to hire José Mourinho a year too late.

In a post on his website which announces that Ryan Giggs will take charge of the team to the end of the season, Di Marzio reveals two names that have been barely been uttered in connection with the newly-vacant post -- namely incumbent Chelsea and Real Madrid bosses Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti -- are on United's managerial wish list. Di Marzio is usually pretty good when it comes to all things Serie A, though scepticism is understandable here.

Mourinho taking over is certainly an amusing thought, if only to imagine the uproar if he walked out of his Chelsea contract to a big Premier League rival. It wouldn't be a great surprise if he did eventually want the post, but it seems, as with Ancelotti, unlikely that he'd leave at present.
