We'd almost forgotten about the messy business of transfer rumours amid all the managerial intrigue, but it's high time to pick up the long-running saga over the potential arrival of Southampton wonderkid Luke Shaw. Fortunately -- or not, depending on whether it actually ever happens -- it seems to be good news.
According to Jamie Jackson in the Guardian, Manchester United are set to beat Chelsea to the young left-back and boyhood Blue, with the reported £100,000 five-year contract seemingly quite a lure. Jackson notes that the 18-year-old would become English football's highest paid teenager ever, with a wage £40,000 higher than that of Adnan Januzaj.
Shaw would certainly be a good signing, with left-back having been an area we've needed to reinforce for a while. Patrice Evra hasn't had too bad a season, but the Frenchman is certainly in decline, and would be relegated to a rotation role if the young England international arrives at Old Trafford in the summer.
