Manchester United aren't just losing one, but two legendary centre-backs this summer. That's after it was confirmed that Rio Ferdinand will follow his old defensive partner Nemanja Vidić out of the door upon the expiry of his contract next month. However, unlike Vidić who jumped before being given the nudge, Ferdinand seems to have waited to see if he'd be offered another deal, only to be snubbed:
Rio Ferdinand leaves #mufc after not being offered new contract...

It's unfortunate that his disappointing performances and not-so-subtle anti-Moyes scheming this season has tarnished what has been a wonderful career at United. But it was probably the right time he moved on, as it now means we'll almost certainly have to bring in another centre-back in the summer. If the reports are to be believed, Louis van Gaal is rather keen on Mats Hummels, though it's difficult to see him being prised from Borussia Dortmund without a fight.
